Journey Burns
Percussion

Picture
Born into the Chicago poetry scene in the mid 90’s, Journey’s passion for entertaining soon blossomed. He became a regular at various open mikes on Chicago’s North and West sides, and Journey’s smooth delivery and unique word-play launched him into a position to host his own open mike at a North side café (Viva Java). This was the catalyst behind his development of Uprisin Productions, a network of like minded of poets, singers and musicians. That endeavor lead to the Phenomenon called Soul People, a Neo-Soul jam band based in Chicago, of which Journey is co-founder along with Cedric Tate and James ”Cuz” Thomas. As Soul People grew Journey seized the opportunity to act out another passion, percussion. Aside from Soul People, Journey has been a percussionist with Band Called Pharisee (Latin Rock) and several experimental Jazz and Reggae projects. Through his formal studies he has gained a proficiency in various musical genres and percussion styles, though he commonly takes traditional African and Afro-Cuban grooves and tastefully melts them into his music.
